Billy Heathen has redefined his music style a few times over the years as he has evolved. For his popular song “West Virginia” he wanted a video that not only married the visual tone with the musical one the song established, but he also wanted the video to help tell the story of the song. Billy Heathen reached out to director Patrick Basquil who worked with him to refine the concept.
Patrick then came to Wallaby to provide the equipment, cinematography, editing and color correction. Cinematographer Alex Hoelscher combined vintage lenses with filts and two plane focal lenses for certain shots to reinforce the story. The result is a unique video for a narrative music video that you can pick up new things with each rewatch.
